Inspired by the art of Simon Bisley, The Barbarian is available in two formats: Statue and Bust, and in two scales — 1/10 for collectible statue fans and 1/24 for miniature painters. All variations also come with two head options (clean and with war paint) and two display options (with or without cloak).
The Barbarian (AKA The Lone Warrior) depicts a solitary barbarian, blonde and imposing, standing tall with his hands resting on a massive sword. Draped in a bear pelt, the warrior emanates raw strength and solemn determination — hallmarks of Bisley’s signature approach to heroic figures.
According to information shared by a private collector, the piece may have originally been painted as a cover for an unreleased or forgotten computer game sometime between 1990 and 1992. Though Bisley himself reportedly could not recall the games’s title, the timeframe aligns with his prolific era working across fantasy franchises and early game art. Despite the lack of official publication or attribution to a specific title, the painting has remained a captivating example of Bisley’s storytelling through imagery — where every muscle, shadow, and stroke adds weight to the character’s legend.
While The Barbarian may have never graced a game box or magazine cover, the original painting (Oil on Canvas, 18″ x 22” / 45 cm x 56 cm) was sold at auction in April 2017, confirming its value among collectors and fans of fantasy art despite the mystery surrounding its publication history.
